Let's draw a circle skirt pattern!

There are a few types of circle skirt. The light circle skirt is less fluffy than the others and the full circle skirt is the fluffy one. You can see the difference between them in these drawings:

Here is how to draw a sewing pattern for each type of the circle skirt in just a few steps:

How to measure

Light circle skirt

The measurements you'll need: waist, hips, hips high and skirt length.

Draw the pattern:

Step 1: draw a line from 1 to 2: the length is half of the waist circumference, plus 1.6" (example: if waist circumference is 20", you'll draw a 11.6" (10"+1.6") long line from 1 to 2).

Step 2: draw a line from 2 to 3: the length is half of hips high.

Step 3: continue drawing the line from 3 to 4 according to this: the line from 2 to 4 should be the length of the skirt.

Step 4: draw 2 arcs (their Vertex is 1): from 2 and 4.

Step 5: draw an arc from 3 to 5: the length is half of upper hips circumference, add to it 0.2".

Step 6: draw a line from 6 to 1 (threw 5).

Step 7: draw point 8 in the center of arc 2-7.

Step 8: draw a line from 1 to 10 (threw 8).

Step 9: draw an arc from 2 to 9:  the length is half of hips circumference. The excess (from 9 to 7) is for the side stitch.

Remember - in this pattern you'll get half of the skirt. So, you'll need to cut the sewing pattern you draw just once from the fabric on the fold.

Now you are ready to go!

Half circle skirt

The measurements you'll need: waist and skirt length.

Draw the pattern:

Step 1: draw a line from 1 to 2: the length is third of the waist circumference, plus 0.78" (example: if waist circumference is 20", you'll draw a 7.45" long line from 1 to 2).

Step 2: draw a line from 2 to 3: the length is the skirt's length.

Step 3:  draw a line from point 1 in right angle to line 1-3 (the same length as line 1-3). Call it line 1-5.

Step 4draw 2 arcs (their Vertex is 1): from 2 and 3 to line 1-5. Call them arc 2-4 and 3-5.

Step 5: draw point 6 in the center of arc 2-4 (for the side stitch).

Remember - in this pattern you'll get half of the skirt. So you'll need to cut the sewing pattern you draw just once from the fabric on the fold.

Full circle skirt

The measurements you'll need: waist and skirt length.

Draw the pattern:

Step 1: draw a line from 1 to 2: the length is sixth of the waist circumference, plus 0.4" (example: if waist circumference is 20", you'll draw a 3.73" long line from 1 to 2).

Step 2: draw a line from 2 to 3: the length of it is the skirt's length.

Step 3:  draw a line from point 1 in right angle to line 1-3 (the same length as line 1-3). Call it line 1-5.

Step 4: draw 2 arcs (their Vertex is 1): from 2 and 3 to line 1-5. Call them arc 2-4 and 3-5.

Remember - in this pattern you'll get a quarter of the skirt. So you'll need to cut the sewing pattern you draw twice from the fabric on the fold and attach the two pieces.

Now you are ready to go!
